Maroon Bells

Combine history and  nature's beauty with a breathtaking drive across Independence Pass to Maroon Bells, one of Colorado's most photographed sites.
Take route 24 south from Leadville to route 82, turning right onto route 82 you will encounter beautiful panoramas and frequent hairpin turns to Independence Pass at 12,095 feet.

Left: The famous and highly photographed Maroon Bells of Colorado

Below: Independence - an authentic historic ghost town just outside of Aspen

Be sure to stop at Independence, about 15 miles east of Aspen, for a self guided tour of this authentic ghost town.

If you plan your visit during the peak summer season, you will need to stop in Aspen and take a bus from the Rubey Park Transit Center to Maroon Bells located west of town. Here you will find fishing, hiking trails and the splendor of some of the best scenery in the Rockies!
